Artful Agenda: The Beginners Guide to Digital Planning

Digital Planning

There are endless possibilities for increasing your productivity and staying inspired when you go digital with Artful Agenda. Understanding all the features available can help you make the most of it!

What Is Digital Planning?

Digital planning is an alternative to traditional planning that uses a digital version of a planner or agenda rather than a paper version. If you’ve ever used a calendar app on your phone to stay organized, Google Calendar to schedule a virtual happy hour, or Outlook Calendar for work video conference calls, you’ve already used a digital planner.

Why Should You Make the Switch to Digital Planning?

Digital planning makes your life easier!

For many people, digital planning is more efficient than paper planning. You have everything you need in the palm of your hand. Using an app that you can access from anywhere you have an internet connection provides the perfect combination of convenience and organization.

Digital planners like Artful Agenda give you the flexibility that you cannot find with paper planners. You can change events, appointments, and tasks without worrying about needing an eraser or some whiteout. When you use Artful Agenda, you can also change your planner’s aesthetic as often as you would like!

With digital planners, you also have the ability to share your calendar with others. You can make it simpler to do things like keep your significant other updated on family events, let your coworkers know when you’re unavailable, or manage employee schedules.

Sync Your Calendars

If you are already using a digital planner or calendar for work or your personal life, you will not have to worry about starting over or migrating all of your content over to Artful Agenda. Our digital planner syncs with Google, Apple, and Outlook. All you have to do is sign into the Artful Agenda app to access your current calendar.

You can even use multiple Google, Apple, and Outlook accounts by sharing additional calendars with the account you sync to Artful Agenda. You can also create multiple calendars within one account so you can easily organize your calendar.

Learn more about how to do these things here!

Create Your Aesthetic

Whether you prefer neutrals or want a colorful planner, Artful Agenda allows you to make your digital planning aesthetic whatever you would like it to be!

With Artful Agenda, you have the option to choose from more than 30 free cover options. Plus, we have some available for purchase. Unlike a paper planner, you can confidently pick a cover without worrying about having to stick with it if you decide you would like another one instead. Plus, our covers never sell out!

If you like to coordinate the colors in your planner with the cover, you can use color hex codes to match the events in your Artful Agenda to your chosen cover. There are colors preprogrammed into the app that you can use or create your own color combinations. If you want to color-code your Artful Agenda based on different categories, you can also do that.

Artful Agenda also comes with hundreds of free digital planning stickers, and new sticker packs are released often. Stickers are a great way to express your creativity, mark milestones, and highlight important activities. There are sticker packs available for a variety of events, appointments, seasons, and celebrations.

Utilize the Productivity Features

Be more productive and organized with digital planning. With Artful Agenda, you can:

Organize your goals

The app has designated sections for Monthly and Weekly Goals as well as customizable daily task areas. Plus, our List tab is a great place to keep track of all of your goals and assign them to daily to-do lists.

Plan your meals ahead of time

Artful Agenda has a Meal Plan section on both the Week view and Day view of the app. When you input your meal information into one of the views, it will automatically populate into the other view, saving you time!

Get push notification reminders

The ability to set notifications is a huge benefit of using a digital planner like Artful Agenda. Setting push notifications will help make sure you do not miss meetings and appointments and can help keep you on schedule on busy days.

Set repeating tasks

In Artful Agenda, you can set tasks to reoccur daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. This capability comes in handy for things like paying your bills or replacing your toothbrush.

Rollover incomplete tasks

Make sure you do not forget to take care of anything on your to-do list by setting unfinished tasks to automatically roll over to the next day until they are checked off.

Download the Artful Agenda App

With Artful Agenda, your digital planner will have all the features of popular paper planners in mind, so you never feel like you are missing any functionality when you make the switch. Artful Agenda gives you virtually all of the capabilities of a paper planner, plus so much more.

Whether you are looking to start your digital planning journey or switch from one digital planner to a better one, Artful Agenda is the perfect option. I am still a newbie, but I am enjoying the planner. I have added past events to the planner. Dating back to 2019. It is good to find an app to hold almost everything. I am trying to find a way to place my contacts into the planner.

Can I add multiple lists?? I can only seem to have 1 at the moment

    • Katy Allen
Posted at 16:04h, 15 November Reply

Hi Courtney! Yes, you can add multiple lists. If you head over to the lists tab, select the middle icon that looks like a piece of paper. If you hover over that, it will say “new.” To look at all of your lists, go to the title of your list and click the downward arrow to reveal all of your lists.

Do you have space designated for notes?

    • Katy Allen
Posted at 16:03h, 15 November Reply

Hi Carolina! If you go under the day view, you can rename all of these boxes and create one you can use for notes. For example, the large rectangular box under water intake would be a great place to insert some notes for yourself. Here is a post explaining more about renaming the title of your lists. https://www.facebook.com/artfulagenda/photos/a.237068356777028/1292050171278836/

Hi Leila! Artful Agenda does not require a third-party app like Good Notes or Evernote. You just log into your Artful account, and you’re good to go! You can also sync Google, iCal, and Outlook calendars within the app. If you’re an iPad user, you can try out our write-to-text capabilities as well! Hope this helps!

Is there a way to “Journal” your day, so that you can look back on?? This why I love my paper planner because I’m able to go back and look for information I’ve written down or just simply look back on that days activites.

    • Katy Allen
Posted at 16:51h, 03 January Reply

Hi Linda! Under your day view, you have the option to rename the titles of your task sections (just click the pencil icon next to your task title). For example, if you wanted to rename the larger rectangle at the bottom “Journal Entry of the Day,” you absolutely can. This could become your journal entry section that you can access through the app on your phone, desktop computer, or tablet!

Hi Olivia! This is actually one of our newer features that we are so excited about. To do this, go to your Daily View and hover over the box title you are wanting to change. A pencil icon should pop up. Select this, and then you should be able to change the title to whatever you would like. Here’s more info on this feature update.

I would like a digital calendar that can be shared and edited among multiple family members. It would also be nice to choose what can be shared so that each member can have their own personal planner as well. Is that possible with this app?

    • Katy Allen
Posted at 15:31h, 13 January Reply

Hi Yessie! Thanks for sending over your question. When you purchase a subscription, you can access your subscription across three devices: your mobile device, tablet, and desktop. Each subscription is one planner. Artful Agenda syncs to Google, Outlook, and iCal accounts, so you can sync your family members’ calendars to yours. Here is a little more info on that. If you want to learn how to sync those accounts, check out our FAQ section here.

Any tips on how to use the apple pencil in the app? Examples: how to capitalize, delete, backspace, etc.

    • Rosemary Morrison
Posted at 01:57h, 24 March Reply

Hi Tabitha! Here are the basic instructions.
      ✏️scribble to delete
      ✏️cross through to select
✏️vertical line to join or separate
I find it easier sometimes to use the vertical line to separate out part of the word that needs to be edited and then use the vertical line again to join it back again. I think to capitalize you would just need to redraw the letter in a way that the iOS would recognize it as a capital letter.

Hi Suzy! In the future we are going to be adding the ability to upload your own stickers so that may include small photos, I don’t know for sure but they are image files too there may be a size limit though. You can upload your photos to the cloud and create links to them and paste them in your AA, either in an event description or somewhere on the day view.

Hi Caroline! We have had Apple Pen compatibility for awhile now. You can use it both for handwriting to text if your iPad is compatible with iOS Scribble, and we have a Drawing Feature that lets you write with your own handwriting. The drawings will only sync across the other two page landscape spreads so you won’t be able to see them on your mobile app though. You can find the Drawing Feature under the menu in the lower left corner on your iPad app.

I’m debating whether or not this will work for me. Is there a way for me to add tabs on the left under lists? I’m not crazy about needing a drop down to access my lists, it would be much more convenient for me to have commonly used lists to be accessible with one click. Is this an option on the Artful App?

    • Rosemary Morrison
Posted at 19:18h, 01 January Reply

Hi Katie! Adding additional tabs isn’t currently a feature but you can pin commonly used lists to the top of the drop down and you can use the search feature from any view to easily pull up a list with a keyword or user created symbol or code. You can give Artful Agenda a try for two weeks for free if you register through our website and it has been at least six months since you tried it previously.
